Today the United Nations has a more important role to play than ever before, with new challenges facing the organisation. To respond to this new agenda, a stronger and more effective UN is needed. This is the home page of the Four Nations Initiative on Governance and Management of the UN, a Member State initiative aiming at contributing to a strengthened United Nations. The 4NI Secretariat finalised its work on 1 October 2007. This website will therefore no longer be continually updated with new material. If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to

The President also announced his intention to propose a thematic debate in the General Assembly on these issues, to be held in March 2008. Further consultations on this proposal would be conducted with the Member States. The following day, on Wednesday 19 September the 4NI Steering Committee presented the report to Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. The Secretary-General as head of the UN Secretariat received the 4NI most warmly and thanked the Initiative for its work. "This will be my bible" he said, referring to the 4NI final report.
