Warm reception by the SG and PGA PDF Print

On Tuesday 18 September 2007 the 4NI final proposals report was formally presented to the new President of the General Assembly by the 4NI Steering Committee represented by Ambassador Heraldo Muñoz, Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo, Ambassador Bengt Säve-Söderbergh and Ambassador Don Pramudwinai. The 4NI was the first group of Member States to be received by the new PGA after the opening of the 62nd General Assembly.

President Kerim welcomed the report and remarked on the importance of this as a Member States initiative. Management reforms would be one of the priorities during his presidency. The President also announced his intention to propose a thematic debate in the General Assembly on these issues, to be held in March 2008. Further consultations on this proposal would be conducted with the Member States.

The following day, on Wednesday 19 September the 4NI Steering Committee presented the report to Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. The Secretary-General as head of the UN Secretariat received the 4NI most warmly and thanked the Initiative for its work. "This will be my bible" he said, referring to the 4NI final report.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon counted on the continued support by the Member States and the 4NI in matters regarding management reform.
